A little bit about me:
Award winning Australian Digital Media strategist, political activist, economist, music nut, culture buff, fanatical Collingwood supporter…
LONG BIO
Con’s career in marketing and communications began at age 13 when he set up some of Melbourne’s first underage nightclub events at his family’s Metro Nightclub. This early experience in drawing crowds and building fan bases laid the foundations for the career he’s since forged in marketing and digital media.
Con continued to work in the music industry (for companies including Universal Music and Zomba Music) and maintained a keen interest in the developing online world. He helped set up one of Australia’s first media extranets for PolyGram in 1998 and has always been active in social media, blogging since 2003 and setting up multiple online communities.
A Collingwood supporter, Con developed an unofficial website for the AFL club in 1999. He was then approached by the club to advise on improving their official site and through this, created one of Australia’s first vodcasts, and still hosts a weekly podcast for the club, “Pie Night”. During this time, Con was the Liberal candidate for the Federal Seat of Melbourne in the Election of 2001, gaining over 25,000 votes.
In 2006, Con left the entertainment industry for marketing & communications consultancy. He worked for Edelman as their country head for digital and social media, contributing to the agency’s global digital practice and designing social media training tools for clients and staff in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific Region, and later consulted to Haystac / Rodeo Agency / Spark Impact, part of the Mitchell’s Communications Group (now Aegis Media).
From 2009 to late 2011, Con was Digital Strategy Director at DDB Group Melbourne, working across all of the businesses in the group, including DDB, Tribal DDB, RAPP, Mango PR and A-Live.
Con was behind Woolworth’s Drought Action Day in 2007, for which he won a PRIA Golden Target Award for innovative use of social media, and has also developed social/digital media strategies and campaigns for Coles, Foster’s, Treasury Wine Estates, Origin Energy, Jetstar, ANZ, Village Roadshow Ltd, Lonely Planet, Telstra, Sensis, DMG Radio, Australia Post, Heinz, PZ Cussons, Don Smallgoods, 7-Eleven, Shell, Bayer and Toyota.
He was an advisor on media and marketing for the Make Poverty History concert, and conceptualised and was part of the team that executed the Sound Relief concerts in Melbourne and Sydney. From 2002 to 2011, Con was on the board of the Australian Federal Government’s Contemporary Music Touring Program – along with Daryl Somers, who brought Con on to run social media activity for the highly successful return of “Hey Hey it’s Saturday” in 2009 and 2010, including the promotion of a Facebook Fan Page that now has over 600,000 fans.
In late 2011, Con took up the position of Regional Digital Engagement Director for Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, where he will design and implement digital strategies and idea architecture for a range of regional and global clients, including Unilever (Dove, Comfort, Ponds, Unilever Food Solutions), Diageo (Johnnie Walker) and BP (Castrol).
